An Act to ban the possession, use or transfer of dangerous weapons.
The Long Title
The court may read the whole of the body of a statute, including the long title of the Act. The long title is part of the Act. In R v Galvin [1987] QB 842, Lord Lane CJ said “one can have regard to the title to help resolve any ambiguity in the body of the Act, but it is not open to the court to use the title to restrict what is otherwise the plain meaning of the words of the statute simply because they seem unduly wide.”
